Hometown favourite Jack Wong Hong-kit and The Netherlands’ Roos van Reek emerged as the big winners in the recently concluded Hong Kong Open 2025, with the Hong Konger nabbing a gold medal in Men’s Singles and a silver in Men’s Doubles. The Dutch pickler, on the other hand, won gold in both the Women’s Singles and the Women’s Doubles.
Jack Wong Hong-kit Earns Vindication Over Giang Trinh, Narrowly Misses Out on Two Gold Medals
The last time Wong Hong-kit played Vietnam’s Giang Trinh, they put on a show at the Panas Malaysia Open 2025. But it was Trinh who ultimately prevailed in a thrilling, hard-fought match that showed Asian pickleball at its finest—dynamic, fast-paced, full of grit, and never-say-die moments.
This time, Wong Hong-kit and Trinh met with gold on the line, and they again delivered the thrills. In the end, the local hero had the crowd on their feet as he fought his way to a full-distance win over Giang Trinh 2-1 (9-11, 11-4, 11-9).
Cat-and-mouse play once again dominated the encounter, with Trinh looking dead set to move Wong Hong-kit around the court and wear him down rather than put the ball away. It was a grind all match long, but Wong Hong-kit, egged on by a roaring home crowd, was up to the challenge.
Wong Hong-kit showed grit and resilience in the face of a tough challenge from Trinh, who looked on the verge of beating the Hong Kong native again after roaring to a 9-6 advantage in the decider. But Wong Hong-kit scored five of the next seven points in an incredible reversal that won him the gold and avenged his July defeat against Trinh.
The 26-year-old Hong Konger had the opportunity to win two gold medals at home as he and partner Kim Eunggwon made it all the way to the finals versus the pair of Len Yang and Thomas Yu. The finale proved to be an epic one, with Yang and Yu pulling it out in the end, 11-6, 9-11, 12-10, after the hometown duo saved multiple match points.

Roos van Reek Nabs a Golden Double
In the Women’s Singles, it was life in the fast lane for The Netherlands’ Roos van Reek.
Leading from beginning to end, van Reek was never in doubt as she outplayed Hsieh Yu-chieh 2-0 (11-2, 11-3) to snag the gold.
The same story unfolded in Women’s Doubles for van Reek and her partner, Wei Ting Chieh. It was one-way traffic to the top of the podium as van Reek and Wei defeated Xiao Yi Wang-Beckvall and Yufei Long 2-0 (11-4, 11-3).
Mixed Doubles Surprise
Meanwhile, in the Mixed Doubles, the pair of Robert Stirling and Aiko Yoshitomi emerged as the surprise champions, claiming the gold over Connie Lee and Giang Trinh in straight games (11-1, 11-7), after a magical run that saw them beat highly fancied opponents.
Next stop for the PPA Tour Asia is Japan at the Sansan Fukuoka Open, which kicks off on 26 August 2025.
