Looking for a unique pickleball playing experience? If you have the means and the paperwork, then you might want to try out the floating pickleball court in Florida!
The world’s first-ever floating pickleball court will be operational until 3 September 2025. This after picklers have welcomed the unique court with open arms since Florida’s Sports Coast debuted it at Mirada Lagoon in San Antonio, some 30 miles north of Tampa in the state of Florida.
“We’re always looking to create unique and fun experiences for our guests,” says David Heaton, Vice President of Operations for Metro Lagoons under Mirada Lagoon, the largest man-made lagoon in the US at more than 15 acres and 33 million gallons of water. “When we had the opportunity to take a unique spin on what already is such a fun and enjoyable sport, we jumped at the chance.”
The AquaBanas-designed floating court by Pickleball Bana boasts of a surprisingly even and sturdy playing surface even as it floats on water. The open-air court is also surrounded by a netter walls so those pickleballs don’t go swimming into the might seas. Plus, this Pickleball Bana floating court is actually regulation-size—or as big as the courts used in pro-level tournaments. It even has connecting covered seating and viewing platforms, too!
“Credit to them [AquaBanas], they’ve done a great job coming up with a fun and exciting product that our guests are loving,” said Heaton, who added that a diverse demographic of players have been trying out the unique court from “hardcore pickleballers who probably play several times a week, maybe affiliated with local clubs” to families who just want to have fun to casual players looking for a good time.
The floating pickleball court has been so well-received, in fact, that it will be operational up until 3 September 2025 so it extends all the way to Labour Day Weekend in the US.
“I think both the AquaBana team and us have been pleasantly surprised,” Heaton added about the lagoon’s newest attraction. “They did a great job engineering this unique product and creating a true pickleball experience guests would expect when they’re playing the sport.”
It’s unclear if the floating pickleball court will ultimately become a more permanent fixture at the Mirada Lagoon. But after its smashingly successful run so far, Heaton said he is open to the possibility of potentially making it a permanent attraction.
That would be great news for picklers around the world who might be looking for a pickleball adventure.
