Good news, picklers in Metro Manila in the Philippines! The positively received Car-Free Sundays along Ayala Avenue in Makati City will be introducing pickleball and 3×3 basketball courts.
Car-Free Sundays is an initiative of Ayala Land that aims to open up one of Makati City’s busiest thoroughfares—Ayala Avenue—during workdays and allow residents and visitors alike to relax, socialise with others, and do family-friendly activities.
The pickleball courts will be a regular fixture during every Car-Free Sundays, while the 3×3 basketball court will be available on select Sundays only, with the dates to be announced in advance.
“By adding courts, we’re giving people more ways to be active, whether that’s a quick game with friends, or trying a new sport for the first time,” said Misha Quimpo, Project Development Manager at Ayala Land, via a statement.
The pickleball court was officially launched on 10 August 2025, and its opening was witnessed by personalities such as Miss Grand International 2016 1st runner-up, Nicole Cordoves, and volleyball player-turned-manager, Dzi Gervacio. The pop-up 3×3 court, on the other hand, was first put up in June 2025 at Ayala Triangle Gardens, and was used for the Summer Jam 3×3 Basketball Tournament for teenage players.
Quimpo also said in the statement that Ayala Land’s Car-Free Sundays initiative was always about “building a weekly habit of movement,” and that it is “widening the menu of movement—from running and cycling to court sports—so people of different ages and fitness levels can find their fit.”
This initiative was first launched in September 2023 and will be celebrating its second anniversary soon. This celebration will involve a fun run, a variety of fitness activities, and a photo exhibit of people participating in the weekly initiative.
