The Malaysia Pickleball Association has announced that Bandar Kuching Member of Parliament, Dr Kelvin Yii, has been appointed as one of the association’s advisors as part of its latest efforts to grow pickleball even more in Malaysia.

Acting President Delima Ibrahim led Dr Yii’s appointment alongside Malaysia Pickleball Association Committee Members, and State Association. After his appointment was made official, Dr Yii immediately expressed his gratitude and noted how the role suits perfectly with his ambitions to drive pickleball’s growth in Malaysia, specifically at the grassroots level.

“I am honoured to serve as an advisor to Malaysia Pickleball Association. This appointment gives me the opportunity to contribute towards governance, structural frameworks, and strategic policies that will ensure pickleball meets international standards and achieves sustainable growth in Malaysia,” Dr Yii said in a statement.

Prior to his being appointed as advisor to the Malaysia Pickleball Association, Dr Yii had been actively working with the Youth and Sports Ministry, the Education Ministry, and other agencies to integrate pickleball more and more into Malaysia’s thriving sports ecosystem. These efforts are part of Dr Yii’s long-term vision to have pickleball recognised as a mainstream sport in Malaysia—and to ultimately help pickleball be included in national sporting events like Sukma, and international games such as the Olympics.

Dr Yii also acknowledged that his appointment to the Malaysia Pickleball Association is very timely, as pickleball has been growing increasingly in Malaysia. Klang Valley alone saw over 40,000 monthly court bookings in the first quarter of 2025, while data from Reclub shows more than 150,000 active weekly players nationwide based on registered accounts. In short, pickleball is exploding in Malaysia, and Dr Yii is happy to be front and centre in making sure this growth continues.

“Pickleball is no longer just a trend; it’s a movement. Malaysians are embracing it at record levels, and the demand speaks for itself. What we need now is structured development, accessibility at the grassroots level, and pathways for talent discovery,” added Dr Yii, who is pushing to build a rock-solid foundation for the sport so it can move forward in the months and years to come.

With Dr Yii and the Malaysia Pickleball Association at the helm, that’s looking like a very distinct possibility.
